The Little Ice Age was a period from about 1550 to 1850 when the world experienced relatively cool temperatures compared to the present. Subsequently, until about 1940 glaciers around the world retreated as the climate warmed. |

Stockholm tried out a system of pay tolls (locally known as "congestion taxes") about a year ago, in order to evaluate the effects on traffic congestion and the environment. It turned out to be a success in that traffic was down significantly and the environment quite possibly improved. The system has now been made permanent. |

Officials of several Ministries have shown that The Netherlands is behind on maintenance regarding the protection against epidemics, floods and computer regulated systems. This is a conclusion of the NOS (Dutch Broadcasting Foundation) after studying reports they received from the Government. |
